The Spark

I just wanted to write a travel blog.

30 April 2023

43 days! Flights are officially paid, backpack purchased and delivered, the countdown is well and truly on. This August I’ll be leaving my little old life for a 10-week solo adventure around the UK and Europe! It’s been a dream of mine to get to Europe, particularly those countries with rich ancient history, and thus I’ve picked the BEST Contiki trip itinerary, Ultimate European & Egypt!

Greece, Rome, Egypt, Turkey, how many people can say they’ve ticked off a visit to some of the most powerful ancient civilizations in time? Best believe I’m bringing the DSLR, and going to go mad photographing ruins, signs, statues, artefacts and exhibits.

I’m absolutely thrilled to have plucked up the courage to leave, I’ve been feeling so trapped and isolated as of late. Pre-covid, most of my income was spent on travel, I absolutely love getting lost in a new place and finding out about the culture, customs and most importantly FOOD!

My previous trips have been incredible, Indonesia, North India, Japan, Korea, China, and Singapore and 3-months backpacking through Vietnam and Thailand.

I’ve worked very hard to gather my savings and seize the opportunity to go and travel as much as I have! At 23, I’ve been told that it’s prime time to start saving for my future, I understand this, but the world is too enticing- my priorities are different (shrug emoji).

Travel broadens your mind, introduces you to new experiences, puts you in situations which result in friendships, and the unexpected bumps along the way, help develop self-confidence and awareness.

I wanted to start a blog, to record my travels for a personal memory, but to help people like me! Someone who tries to live life with a brave face, but tends to get bogged down in the mundane, without realizing a year of precious time has passed. Follow me as I give you the down low on my first solo trip, recommend places to visit and answer general queries from you.

Lots of love, Hilary.
